From the Principal

Hello SS. Philip and James familes!

My name is Dan Mitchell, and I serve as principal of SS. Philip and James School.  I love being here in Canal Fulton, as this is a truly unique and beautiful community with the kindest people in Ohio!

In terms of who I am, I am a committed lifelong Catholic follower of Jesus Christ, first and foremost.  I am married and have three children.  I spent my youth in Toledo, OH, attending St. John's Jesuit High School (sister school of Walsh Jesuit just north of here).  I then attended Bowling Green State University where I attained a Bachelor's in English/ Secondary Education 7-12 in 1999.  In the early 2000's, I went to the University of Akron and completed a Master's in Literature in 2007.  In 2016, I completed a Master's in Education from Walsh University and earned a State of Ohio Principal's License!

I have worked in the Diocese of Youngstown for the last 14 years at St. Paul School in North Canton, St. Thomas Aquinas, and SPJ.  I also taught college writing at Stark State College for nine years, and I currently teach composition and rhetoric for SNHU online.  One of my favorite hobbies is coaching, as I have coached football from kindergarten flag up through varsity level, both boys and girls middle school basketball, track & field, baseball, and Power of the Pen (creative writing).

More than anything else, though, I put Jesus first, so the opportunity to lead a school dedicated to spreading His Good News is a great and humbling honor.  I pledge to you that I will work tirelessly to make SS. Philip and James a model school that others will want to emulate.  I welcome any and all comments and suggestions, and my door is always open to talk.

Thank you all in advance for allowing me to work with your children to create the future of America!

God be with you,

Dan Mitchell
